A Cumming woman is struck by a truck, crashes into others

Officers with the Gainesville Police Department continue to investigate a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 24-year-old Cumming woman the morning of Monday, Nov. 13. The 11-car crash occurred near the intersection of West Ridge Road and Georgia Highway 60, also known as Queen City Parkway.

Witnesses to the crash remember having seen the young woman's car stopped at the traffic light at that intersection that morning, just moments prior to being struck by a tanker truck from the rear. The force of that impact caused the woman's car to collide with another vehicle in front of her. Witnesses then reported seeing that third motorist's vehicle overturn several times.

The impact of that secondary crash caused the vehicle of the original motorist struck to spiral out of control. She ultimately crashed into yet another vehicle before skidding off and slamming into more than a half dozen other vehicles.

Emergency crews responding to the scene worked to assess the injuries of the 14 people involved in the crash. At least seven were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, each with varying injuries.

Gainesville Police crash scene investigators returned to the crash scene on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 19 to conduct further analysis. Highway 60 was closed for the majority of the day between West Ridge Road and Palmour Drive as they attempted to reconstruct the crash.

A spokesperson for the police department notes that it could take some additional time to sort out what occurred, especially since the crash involved so many motorists. It's unclear if any charges will be filed in this case.
