Delivering The Help You Need

How can you avoid truck accidents?

| Mar 6, 2019 | Truck Accidents

Truck accidents happen regardless of the season, time of day or road conditions. People who drive trucks may cause collisions as a result of being tired, overworked or distracted. Sometimes, they fall asleep behind the wheel or make serious errors.

As a Georgia driver, you should do what you can to react quickly to dangerous truck drivers. Following are some examples:

Watch for weaving and trailer swaying

One of the things to look for before you pass any truck is weaving or the swaying of a trailer. If the trailer swings out of alignment with the truck, it could result in a jackknife accident.

The best thing to do if you see a truck moving oddly is to back away from the vehicle and to keep a distance. You can place a call to the local authorities so that they can pull over the driver and do a wellness check on them.

Pass quickly

Once you determine that it is safe to pass, pass the truck quickly. If you stay along its side, there is a risk that the driver may not see you. They could pull into your lane and sideswipe you. Avoid this by only passing when you have the time to do so completely. Once you do, don’t cut back in front of the truck until there are a few car lengths between you.

Don’t be afraid to use your horn

Finally, don’t be scared about honking your horn. If you aren’t sure that a driver sees you, honk. It’s an easy way to get their attention.

If you or a loved one suffers injuries in an accident with a truck, it’s important to find out what legal options you have for seeking compensation for your expenses and damages.
