When you enter your doctor’s office in Georgia, you have an expectation that your physician will provide you with quality care. Despite your expectations, unfortunately, mistakes can still happen in the medical field. In medicine, you can also assume that there is some room for error. After all, many mistakes do not involve any sort of negligence on behalf of the doctor. When it does, however, this is a serious offense and you may have a case against your physician.

According to MDLinx, there are several causes behind medical malpractice. These causes include:

  • Misdiagnosis
  • Infection
  • Anesthesia mistakes
  • Childbirth errors
  • Surgical errors

Misdiagnosis is the lead reason that you may seek a malpractice claim. Misdiagnosis may lead to you receiving harmful treatments or force you to miss treatments that may save your life. Anesthesia and surgery are also areas in which medical malpractice is more common than other areas of medicine. With anesthesia, doctors may not perform due diligence with a patient’s history, they may neglect warning signs during surgery or have defective equipment. Surgery, on the other hand, may also include wrong site errors or punctures of blood vessels and organs.

In the US many Americans suffer because of medication errors. Physicians may prescribe the wrong medication, the drugs may have poor instructions or the doctors and pharmacists might miss harmful interactions between drugs. Hospital infections are also relatively common. Healthcare facilities have pathogens that can affect patients. It is up to the doctors to inform patients of the risks.

The above information is meant to educate on medical malpractice. It is not to be interpreted as legal advice.
